Time to Film Calculator

Calculate required film stock from recording time

What It Calculates

The Time to Film Calculator determines how much film stock you need based on your desired recording time, film format, and frame rate. Essential for production planning and budget estimation.

Formula:

Film Length = (Recording Time × Frame Rate) ÷ Frames per Foot

How to Use

Step 1: Select Film Format

Choose your film format from the dropdown. Each format has specific frames-per-foot calculations:

  • Super 8mm: 72 frames per foot (cartridge-based)
  • Super 16mm: 40 frames per foot (single-perf)
  • 35mm Standard: 16 frames per foot (4-perf)
  • IMAX 15/70: 12.8 frames per foot (premium large format)

Step 2: Enter Recording Time

Input your desired recording duration in minutes. Consider adding a safety margin for multiple takes and potential reshoots.

Step 3: Set Frame Rate

Enter your shooting frame rate. Each format has common rates (Super 8mm: 18fps, Professional: 24fps, High-speed: 120fps+).
