Data Collection and Analytics
What Information We Collect
CineMath collects limited usage data to improve the app. Every event carries a random analytics ID created on your device (see Analytics IDs below). Unless you turn analytics off, we collect:
Usage Analytics
- • Calculator Usage Patterns: Which calculators you use and how often
- • Feature Interactions: How you discover and use app features
- • Session Information: Time spent in the app and general usage patterns
- • Errors and Crashes: The error type and where in the app it happened, and whether the app recovered from a crash
- • Device Information: Device type (iPhone/iPad/Mac), screen size, OS version, app version, and region setting
What We DO NOT Collect
We explicitly do not collect:
- ❌ Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- ❌ Your calculation values or results
- ❌ Advertising identifiers (IDFA) or hardware identifiers such as serial numbers
- ❌ Location data (GPS coordinates, addresses, city, state, country); we tell our analytics service not to derive location from your IP address
- ❌ Contact information or personal content
- ❌ Cross-app tracking data
How We Collect Information
We use PostHog, an analytics service, to collect usage data. Data collection is:
- • Pseudonymous: Events carry a random analytics ID, not your name, email or Apple ID
- • Session-based: Session IDs change with each app launch
- • Persistent across sessions: The analytics ID stays the same so we can see whether people come back
- • Optional: Turn it off in Settings > About & Legal > Share Usage Analytics; nothing more is sent and events stored on your device are deleted
- • Aggregated: Data is combined with other users for insights
- • Minimal: Only essential usage data is collected

Shareable Data Planning Reports
What We Collect
When you share a Data Planning Report, notes or history from the CineMath app, we store:
User-Provided Information
- • Project name: The name you assign to your project
- • Prepared by (optional): A name or company you add to a report
- • Shared content: The report, notes or history entries you choose to share
- • Technical specifications: Video format details, storage requirements, and delivery specifications
- • Optional security settings: Password protection and access limits (if enabled)
Automatically Collected
- • Creation date: When the report was created
- • View analytics: Number of views, last viewed timestamp, anonymized viewer data
- • Share link: A unique identifier for accessing the report
How We Use This Information
- • Report Sharing: To provide shareable links for your data planning reports
- • Analytics: To track report views and usage (anonymized)
- • Support: Administrators may access report data to provide customer support
- • Service Improvement: To understand feature usage and improve the reporting functionality
Who Can Access Your Reports
- • You: Full access to any reports you create via the share link
- • Recipients: Anyone with the share link can view the report (password-protected if you enable it)
- • Administrators: CineMath support staff can access reports for troubleshooting and support purposes
- • No Third Parties: Report data is not shared with external services or third parties
Data Retention
- • Active Reports: Stored until you delete the report or it expires (if you set an expiration)
- • Deleted Reports: Permanently removed from our systems immediately upon deletion
- • View History: Last 100 views are retained per report for analytics purposes
- • Admin Logs: Report access and modifications are logged for security (90-day retention)
Your Control
- • Delete Anytime: You can permanently delete any report from the CineMath iOS app
- • Password Protection: Optionally protect reports with passwords
- • Expiration: Set automatic expiration dates for time-sensitive reports
- • View Limits: Limit the number of times a report can be accessed
- • Revoke Access: Revoke a link at any time in the app under Settings > Shared Links, or contact support
Data Security
- • Encryption in Transit: All report data is encrypted during transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- • Secure Storage: Reports are stored in encrypted database with access controls
- • Hashed IPs: Viewer IP addresses are cryptographically hashed for privacy
- • Access Logs: All admin access to reports is logged for audit purposes
- • No Location Tracking: We do not collect geographic location from report views
Important Privacy Consideration
Project names may contain sensitive information. Only share report links with trusted recipients. Consider using generic project names (e.g., "Project A") if privacy is a concern.

- • Analytics tied to a random ID are pseudonymous personal data under the GDPR and UK GDPR
- • We process them on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app; you can object at any time by turning off Share Usage Analytics
- • You can ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of data tied to your analytics ID
- • You can complain to your local data protection authority
For California Users (CCPA)
- • We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- • Analytics tied to your analytics ID count as personal information under the CCPA
- • You can ask to know or delete that information by emailing us your analytics ID

Technical Details
Data Format
Analytics events include:
- Session ID (changes each app launch)
- Analytics ID (the same across sessions)
- Device characteristics (type, OS version, app version, screen size, region setting)
- Usage timestamps
- Feature interaction patterns
- Error and crash data (error type and code, where in the app, crash recovery events)
Analytics IDs
The app creates one random identifier the first time it runs:
- • What it is: A random string like "user_a1b2c3d4e5f6", shown in Settings > About & Legal
- • Purpose: Count users and see whether they return across app sessions
- • Not derived from you: Not your name, email, Apple ID, advertising identifier or hardware identifiers
- • App Store label: Because the ID persists, Apple's App Privacy label lists analytics as data linked to you; it is not used for tracking or advertising
- • Local generation: Created on your device and removed when you delete the app
Crash Data Collection
We collect technical crash information to maintain app stability:
- • What we collect: Stack traces, error messages, app state at time of crash
- • What we don't collect: Personal data, calculation values, or user content from crashes
- • Purpose: Identify and fix bugs that cause the app to crash or malfunction
- • Privacy protection: Crash data contains only technical debugging information
- • Automatic detection: Unless analytics are off, the app reports crashes with its analytics ID
Location Privacy
We do not collect any location information:
- • GPS data: We do not access device location services
- • IP-based location: We have disabled location tracking in our analytics service
- • Privacy protection: No geographic data is collected or stored
- • Result: Complete location privacy for all users
Data Accuracy
Analytics data is used for trends and patterns only. We:
- • Do not make decisions affecting individual users based on this data
- • Use aggregated data for app improvement decisions

- • Cannot contact you from an analytics ID
